Smart Zone
Zona Cerdas
Early in a session the agent is sharp. As the session grows it drifts into the dumb zone.
The smart zone is the early part of a session, where the agent is sharp and focused. As the session grows, it drifts into the dumb zone: sloppier, forgetful, and more prone to mistakes.
The transition is gradual, which is what makes it dangerous. There is no error and no warning. The agent answers slightly worse, repeats a correction you already made, and handles a simple edit that it would have nailed an hour ago. Because each response is locally acceptable, nothing in the output tells you the quality has dropped.
The practical response is to watch the shape of the session rather than the quality of the answers. Long sessions, many tool calls, and a lot of accumulated output all push toward the dumb zone. Compaction before it gets there, or a fresh session between tasks, keeps the agent in the part where it is reliable. When an agent starts making errors it did not make before, the length of the session is the first thing to check.
