DX is developer experience: how easy a codebase and its toolchain make it for humans to do good work. Documentation that is actually current, fast feedback, errors that say what to do, a build you can run without asking someone.
It matters for AI-assisted work more than it used to, because the agent reads the same artefacts a developer does. A clear README becomes the agent's onboarding. A test suite that runs fast becomes the agent's feedback loop. Error messages that name the file and the line become the agent's debugging input.
Improving DX and improving AX are usually the same work seen from two sides. Documenting how to run the tests helps the human and gives the agent a way to verify its own work. Fixing the error message helps the human and saves the agent a turn. The repository that is pleasant to work in is the repository that is pleasant to delegate to.
