Data Governance
Tata Kelola Data
The rules and habits that decide what data exists, who may use it, and how long it lives.
Data governance is the set of decisions about data as an asset: what is collected, who owns it, where it lives, how long it is kept, and what happens when it is wrong. Most organisations have some of this written down and most of it is not followed.
AI projects expose the gaps faster than anything else, because a model is a consumer of every table and document nobody has cleaned up. Suddenly there are three copies of the customer table, two definitions of active, and a spreadsheet of corrections that nobody has reconciled.
The pragmatic scope for a non-enterprise team: know where the source of truth is, know which fields are sensitive, and know when the source was last updated. Those three facts are enough to make most AI projects work, and they surface the organisational problems that no model can fix.
